A Grab Bag of Broadswords.

For something a little different, one of our players from the Postcount forums, Card, sent some questions to us wanting a spotlight behind the scenes at Broadsword, and the people behind the name :) So here's a special "Card Bag" for you, and our regular Grab Bag will return next time.

Our 5v5 event kicks off tomorrow at 1PM EST/6PM GMT/7PM CET! With 21 teams registered it's looking to be another 5v5 event jam packed with excitement! Tune in live on our official DAoC Twitch channel, and maybe even win some prizes :)

If you have any game related questions for our DAOC Devs, please send them in through our Grab Bag submission form. Please note this is for game questions, feedback should be sent in through our feedback form.

Your site broadsword.com puts a saying, quite boldly, “Every Player. Every Day.” on their front page. How is Broadsword™ committing themselves to the communities of these great games? Perhaps something players may take for granted, or, just not know about that your staff works hard on that may otherwise miss the patch notes?

A game, most-especially an online game, is very little without its community of players. Broadsword’s company Vision Statement: “Every Player, Every Day” wasn’t a result of long planning meetings or the best of a selection of options. It was the first suggestion, and the founding members knew it to be the best and most sincere statement of our goals. We are all gamers. Moreover, we find ourselves in the unique position of being able to contribute to our favorite games. More than 3 years on – we have not lost sight of this, and we are still sensible of our responsibility to the community of players that share our love and passion for these products.

That responsibility comes in many forms, not least of which is communication. Whether reciprocal dialogue, reading the feedback from players, or posting our development decisions as patch notes, producers’ letters, or on forums – we have always sought to hear the voices of community, engage in healthy dialogue, and respond by translating what we hear into strong development decisions for our games.

What is the culture like at Broadsword’s studio? How are ideas worked on and how might some of the many things Broadsword™ is working on get prioritized?

We are very fortunate to work amongst kindred spirits and long-time friends. The culture is one of respect, dedication, and fun. There is quite a bit of effort that goes into creating great content for our products, and it is not without its stressful moments to be sure. However, at the end of the day, we are all doing what we love and though we may sometimes find ourselves on opposite sides of an idea or concept, we find resolution and common ground as we have for many years; with nerf-gun battles and compromise.

Who is the office clown? Can you share a moment with us that brings a smile every time you think about it?

Just about everybody in the Broadsword family has a tremendous sense of humor, which is why each day at work is a true pleasure. If I had to choose one moment among many, I would tell you about the day that [name redacted] placed a life-sized cutout of an axe-wielding Valkyn directly in front of one of our elevators. That was an interesting morning. I can still hear the screams, and it brings a smile to my face.

What’s the biggest or most prized piece of memorabilia at the office and how was it acquired?
This is a tough one. As many know, Broadsword was formed by members of Mythic Entertainment. Mythic was beloved to all of us, and its spirit lives on in our hearts and minds. When decorating the studio, we were certain to include our heritage, and there are many items from the early days of Dark Age of Camelot and other early Mythic games which can be found throughout the studio. Going back further, Ultima Online memorabilia may be found, some dating back 2 decades. Broadsword is a living museum, so it’s extremely difficult to choose a favorite. Everybody has their own, and that speaks to the diversity and (very) long history of our veteran developers in this studio.

One thing which I can confidently say is prized by each-and-every Broadsword employee is the beautifully engraved sword which is bestowed upon you when you are hired.

I believe that Broadsword was made out of admiration, passion, and love for these games. Nothing is more important to these games and the people who play them than your mission looking forward. Tell us what that mission is.

Broadsword was indeed formed by a core group of developers with a fierce dedication to the games we serve. In this expanding industry where developers move from product to product in pursuit of personal or professional growth or change, it is often the products that experience the most change. We at Broadsword feel as though we have found our calling with the products we serve. Dark Age of Camelot and Ultima Online are institutions in the online gaming world, and we want nothing more than to see these games thrive and remain available to the communities that call them home.

Ours is a significant responsibility, one that may be difficult to understand for those whom gaming is not a regular part of life. We are unbelievably proud to have such dedicated players, and in cases beyond count, we have quite literally watched our players ‘grow up’. Many begin playing at a very young age. As a result, over the years several players take a break from the games and come back having completed their education, having been married, or returning from service in the Armed Forces. One my favorites is when we watch as players open-up these wonderful worlds to their children.

Our mission, simply, is to invest the same love and dedication into these products as our players. To maintain the bonds of friendship and camaraderie that exist in the worlds of Dark Age of Camelot and Ultima Online. To give back to the community that has given us so much.

Based on feedback from the 5v5 event, we're going to hold off on introducing the character movement changes from the 1.123C Pendragon notes until we can make some adjustments to them. Since those changes require server downtime, we're going to introduce the other fixes and changes from the 1.123C Pendragon notes in the form of a Hot Fix today and delay the character movement and +range% fix (which also requires server downtime) until the 1.124 version. We're aiming to release version 1.124 prior to Dark Age of Camelot's 16th anniversary.

Without further ado, the following notes are now live!

World

  • Buggane’s Obelisk will now rotate once every 4 hours instead of once every 24 hours.
  • The portal ceremony to Ellan Vannin will now port once every 5 minutes instead of once every 10 minutes.
  • The Triumphant Wristguard reward (called "Band of the Dream Conqueror") from the Chapter 6 Dragon Curse campaign will now be tradable to other players.
  • The Chapter 6 Dragon Curse campaign solo instance’s mobs have had their difficulty reduced slightly.
  • The Chapter 5 Dragon Curse campaign Vulcan (Albion) and Darkspire Crystal (Midgard) bosses have had their difficulties reduced slightly. Hibernia's boss is already at the correct difficulty.

Class Changes

Enchanter
Enchantment specialization
  • The Enchantment of Mana's proc rate has been reduced from a 50% to a 40% chance to proc.
Hunter
Beastcraft specialization
  • The chance for the Hunter’s Avatar to land a rear stun has been removed entirely.
  • The chance for the Hunter’s Avatar to proc disease has been reduced as follows:

Can you explain how exactly the kill counter for the daily quests works? We often had situations in keep fights when, for example, I did the death blow, but the kill did not count for us.

Kill Credit for the daily quests, excluding the solo-kill one which is based on the solo-kill rules, is entirely based on the character or character’s group obtaining the deathblow of an enemy player in RvR.

However, the siege-related daily quests require the relevant keep to be under siege (with the ‘flame’ icon showing on the /realmwar window) and require your character to be within the keep’s region. Most likely, any issue with getting credit for a kill on that daily quest means your character did not meet those 2 requirements.

Fortunately, we do have plans to increase the size of the keeps’ regions in version 1.124, which should alleviate the main issue with receiving credit on that quest.

The other daily kill quests have similar region requirements such as being in the ‘open’ and away from most structures like towers, keeps, and ruins or being within the Buggane’s Obelisk’s current region, respectively.

If you are not receiving credit for a kill, these region requirements are again most likely the culprit.

There appears to be a large number of inactive guilds that have guild houses. With the removal of house dues, is there a plan to repossess those houses to allow active players the opportunity to get a better house location?

We’ll look into how best tackle this with the housing update planned for late next year.

Big Stephen King fan here, was running with a prologue to chap5 BG on Alb and saw an NPC called Childe in the new Dartmoor dungeon. Then as we got to the chap5 part, Occultist Naxsomething (can’t remember the name) broadcasts something regarding a darkest tower in /region chat.

Was wondering if the King easter egg was actually a coincidence (the dark tower series of novels, for which S.K got his inspiration from a 19th century poem called "Childe Roland to the dark tower came", Roland being one of the main characters in the books) or was it done on purpose (and if so, how come no one caught it yet?!) Highly recommend reading those books :P

*Wink*

There are some other easter eggs in the Curse campaign that many avid readers or watchers of fantasy will surely pick up!

Somewhat recently changes were made to horse armor that increases mount speed. However, the Mythical horse armor received no such upgrade. Is there any chance to get this armor up to date?

Correct. The Mythical Horse Armor was given as a reward to all accounts and characters who pre-ordered the Darkness Rising expansion. As such, several sub-level 50 characters have the Mythical Horse Armor and enjoy using it. Rather than limit lower levels from wearing their pre-ordered horse armor, that armor did not receive the speed bonus.

First off the 4.5 speed aurulite weapons are great! Is there any chance that we will see thrust/pierce and any other weapon type that has not been put in yet? I understand some specs will have weapons better than others, but they're basically Pictslayers. Since there are all damage types for those will we see others in the future?

As the campaign continues, keep checking the aurulite merchants for additional weapon types!

Chapter 7

Albion

The Dream Stone is ours. I have never before seen such power from a single object. Truly, an object of wonder…and I fear the power of the other stones now that I have seen this one. If what we know of the Life Stone is true, then I fear the Tenebrous have long since brought Albion’s worst enemy back into the forefront.
--Commander Selan

Midgard

Warriors of Midgard, I leave the conquest of the Life Stone in your hands. I must venture further into the sanctum of the legendary Drakulv for the ancient power of Drakulv Kings. I know I can count on you to stop whatever the Dark Dragon has planned.
--Garmr, King of the Drakulv

Hibernia

Salle is journeying within the Veil to locate the Dark Dragon’s lair. In the meanwhile, it is up to us to stop the madness in Sheeroe Hills in your home of Hibernia. The Glimmer and Marrach are still at large, and they have used the Life Stone to resurrect some of our deadliest of enemies. It is up to us to end them and retrieve the stone. After what you and I have been through together inside the Dream, I will be there with you in this war, always. Our people are now inseparable allies.
--General Riarona of the Abagath Dark Elves

A Dragon’s Curse (Chapter 7)
  • The campaign continues! The Life Stone has the power to resurrect the realm’s most evil enemies!
  • Venture once again into Dartmoor, Malmohus, and Sheeroe Hills to defeat the Dragons! They have returned, and this time, they have help!
To begin the encounter:
  • Albion – After obtaining the quest from Commander Selan, speak with Maximilian outside Goldestandt’s Lair.
  • Midgard – After obtaining the quest from Garmr, attack Gjalpinulva within her lair.
  • Hibernia – After obtaining the quest from General Riarona within the rift, speak with General Riarona again outside Cuuldurach’s Lair.
Things to note about Chapter 7:
  • Completing Chapter 6 is not required to begin Chapter 7.
  • Completing chapters 1-5 are required to begin Chapter 7.
  • You can begin the encounter so long as you are currently on the Chapter 7 quest or have completed the Chapter 7 quest.
  • You can enter an in-progress encounter by stepping into the waypoints outside of the dragon lair.
  • Once the encounter begins, if there are no players within the dragon lair, the encounter will reset.
Campaign Changes
  • The difficulty of Chapter 6 has been further reduced on all realms.
  • Players that touch the Dream Stone during the Chapter 6 campaign quest will now be able to teleport to and from their realm’s instances from the main teleporters.
  • Soul Stone’s Power buff to pierce certain enemies in the Curse Campaign has been increased to a 15 minute duration.
  • NPC allies and pets no longer cause enemies with Darkspire Shielding to activate their shield when taking damage. Players must still first use a Soul weapon or have the Soul Stone’s buff to remove the shielding.
  • Daila Whitesteel no longer roams around Camelot. She can be found near the northern forge in Camelot, east of the Church of Albion.
  • The Grimbur encounter for Albion’s Chapter 5 now spawns less harpies and at a slower rate.
  • The Bodolf encounter for Midgard’s Chapter 5 should now always award credit to players within his lair.
    • Bodolf will return to his spawn point when dragged away from his lair.
  • The Salle NPC in the Rift has been increased in size to allow players to easily identify the correct NPC Salle for certain campaign quest steps.
  • The Empirical Glimmer Body encounter for Hibernia’s Chapter 5 now progresses faster.
  • Battlefield Potions have been reduced in cost to 25,000 aurulite.
  • The Hibernian daily ‘Victory Over the Rift’ has been removed. This quest was not yet meant to be released.
  • Characters who have completed the Chapter 6 solo instance can now re-enter them to adventure through them again.

Chapter 6

Albion
The Dream Stone is upon us. Its power is said to be unmatched of the five. IF we can use its power for good, for what is right, then the Tenebrous will fall and our next step will be to reclaim Darkspire and liberate the Undead.
--Commander Selan
Midgard
I am now King of the Drakulv, thanks to your help. There is something I wish to show you, it is a sanctuary of the Drakulv . Only the Drakulv are allowed to enter, and only the most esteemed. For you, I will make it the first exception. Meet me within Drakulvhamn, there is still work to be done.
--Garmr, King of the Drakulv
Hibernia
The new alliance between Hibernia and the Abagath Dark Elves is a breath of fresh air for us in the Veil, and quite literally! The Rift has been taken, we have won it from the Marrach. Next, we venture further into the rift. A new waypoint has been opened, and inside is what we have been looking for. Come to me, and I will show you the way.
--Prince Reynarch, Leader of the Abagath

A Dragon’s Curse (Chapter 6)
  • The campaign continues! Adventure into your memories! Some of your favorite old zones await with new challenges!
  • These new dungeons are restricted to a single player only. Adventure through this challenging chapter at your own pace and relive your old memories!
    • Be sure to use Selan's Greatsword, the Drakulv Battle Horn, or Call Salle to summon some help while you are in the Dream.
      • Interact with the Dream Stone in Childe's Tomb, Drakulvhamn, or The Rift dungeons if you have lost the summoning item.
  • The 2016 5v5 Triumphant Wristguard is now available as a quest reward from Chapter 6!
  • To start chapter 6:
    • Speak with Commander Selan in Childe’s Tomb.
    • Speak with Garmr in Drakulvhamn.
    • Speak with Prince Reynarch in the Rift.
  • Please Note: Players may need to run their client's patcher if they are not able to see chapter 6's dungeons after porting.

Chapter 5

Albion
Daila has forged our weapons. We can now strike the enemies from Darkspire and pierce their magical shield. It is time to reclaim Albion from the Tenebrous and prepare ourselves to move within the Catacombs. Once we defeat their leaders, Dartmoor will once again be safe.
--Commander Selan
Midgard
Warriors of Midgard! I have gone on a short journey since we last spoke. I have been into the Catacombs, passed the Burial Grounds, and into the Glashtin Forge. Freki and I searched for a smith capable of such miracles. I have the Soul Weapons. We can now defeat the Drakulv King and reclaim Drakulvhamn! It begins now!
--Garmr, leader of the Drakulv Rebellion
Hibernia
Heroes, my sister, Sayri, has returned to Sheeroe Hills. She has been in the depths of Hibernia, and she is leading the Glimmer to build something…terrible. I fear Mother has gotten into her head again, and when Sayri listens to Mother, bad things happen! With our Soul Weapons, we can face Sayri and her terrors. We must stop her, for the good of a renewed Hibernia.
--Salle, the Glimmer Fairy
A Dragon’s Curse (Chapter 5)
The campaign continues! Defeat the leaders of the Cursed uprising!
New gear has been added to the aurulite merchants!
To start chapter 5:
  • Speak with Commander Selan in Childe’s Tomb or Camelot.
  • Speak with Garmr in Drakulvhamn.
  • Speak with Salle in the Rift or Tir na Nog.

Chapter 4

Albion
As the outlook brightens within the dark tomb, Commander Selan is pushing the offensive forth into ending the Tenebrous uprising. Rackham, the first of the Undead to betray the Tenebrous and seek out Albion for aid, knows of a way to use the Soul Stone’s remaining power.
Midgard
With Oracle Sabna now a part of the Drakulv Revolution, the pillar of leadership begins to sway amongst the Drakulv rebels. However, this will not stop Garmr and his crusade to liberate the Varulv kind from their cursed masters. He will work with the Oracle, who has discovered a way of forging weapons made with soul magic, if it means he will no longer serve the ancient evils of Midgard’s troubled past.
Hibernia
The Veil is home to all sorts of magic and terrors, and Prince Reynarch of Abagathar finally has his opportunity to make his mark in Dark Elven history with the defeat of the Glimmer. To that end, their Glimmer Fairy ally has thus far delivered unremarkable aid to the Abagathar Dark Elves – and she continues to do so. Salle cautiously offers the Resistance a way to create soul weapons – but with a warning; this magic is evil, and using it can have unknown consequences…
A Dragon’s Curse (Chapter 4)
The campaign continues! Gather the souls of your fallen enemies!
To start Chapter 4:
  • Speak with Commander Selan in Childe’s Tomb.
  • Speak with Garmr in Drakulvhamn.
  • Speak with Salle within the Rift in Sheeroe Hills.
Fixes
  • The Soul Stone’s Power buff from Oracle Sabna for Midgard players and from Childe for Albion players is now obtainable from their respective NPCs even after the Chapter 3 quest is completed.
    • Hibernia players can get this buff from their Salle companion.
  • The Blood Stone quest encounter was bugged in the case that some players may not have received their Blood Stone from Chapter 2.
  • Note: You will need the Blood Stone to complete coming chapters.
  • On Albion: Defeating the Blood Slime in the Blood Pit within Childe’s Tomb will always award players who are missing their Blood Stone with a replacement. The Blood Slime will always spawn for players who have completed the Chapter 2 quest, ‘The Blood Stone’, by interacting with the Blood Pit.
  • On Midgard: Defeating the Blood God in Priestess Aiyana’s Shrine will always award players who are missing their Blood Stone with a replacement. The Blood God will always spawn for players who have completed the Chapter 2 quest, ‘The Blood Stone’, by defeating Priestess Aiyana.
  • On Hibernia: Defeating the corrupt dragon hatchling in the Rift will always award players who are missing their Blood Stone with a replacement. The corrupt dragon hatchling will always spawn for players who have completed the Chapter 2 quest, ‘The Blood Stone’, by destroying the glimmer egg.

Chapter 3

Albion
Commander Selan has heard no mention of the next magic stone, but there is word of an unexpected ally from within Childe’s Tomb. Artemelis, Selan’s trusted companion, has met with the tomb’s keeper, and he is willing to provide Selan with valuable information that may tip the tide in Albion’s favor.
Midgard
With Garmr and his men investigating the location of the next magic stone, Sigrun and Theso have learned of a Drakulv traitor within Drakulvhamn. This traitor, a highly influential and respected Oracle of the Drakulv, has agreed to meet with a hero of Midgard and show them the potential of the Soul Stone’s true power.
Hibernia
Salle the Glimmer Fairy continues to prove a valuable ally, as she has discovered the dormant power within your Soul Stone. Speak to her by calling her with her flute, and she’ll explain how Hibernia can harness the stone’s ominous might.
If you lose Salle’s flute, you can receive a new one by speaking with Salle in the Rift.
A Dragon’s Curse (Chapter 3)

The campaign continues! The Soul Stone's Power awaits!

To start chapter 3:
  • Speak with Commander Selan in Childe’s Tomb in Dartmoor.
  • Speak with either Theso or Sigrun, depending on the path you've chosen, in Drakulvhamn in Malmohus.
  • Visit Salle the Glimmer Fairy in the Rift in Sheeroe Hills.

Chapter 2

Albion
We've finally broken through the barriers and have laid the uncharted tunnels open for exploration. If what Rackham says is true about the Soul Stone, I fear we may already be too late to stop the plans of the Tenebrae. Nonetheless, our next move is planned. Make haste to me.
--- Commander Selan
Midgard
The incessant wind has finally stopped. We can now venture deeper into these treachorous tunnels. If the Soul Stone was an indication of the riches to be found, we of the Frozen Torch are destined to more glory, fame, and wealth than I first thought. Garmr's prattling about some ceremony be damned; there's a dragon's treasure hoard down here and we'll be the ones to take it.
--Theso of the Frozen Torch
Hibernia
The Abagath have finished their work with the energy barriers, I can finally lead you further into The Veil. I will be by your side to guide you in this place, for there are many dangers. Nothing matters compared to our search for the dragon eggs. We must find them, for Hibernia!
--Salle, the Glimmer Fairy
A Dragon’s Curse (Chapter 2)

The campaign continues! Find the Blood Stone!

To start chapter 2:
  • Speak with Commander Selan in Childe’s Tomb in Dartmoor.
  • Plan your next move with the Drakulv traitor, Garmr in Drakulvhamn in Malmohus.
  • Visit Salle the Glimmer Fairy in the Rift in Sheeroe Hills.
The entire dungeons are now open for exploration!

    • Normal Quests – Can be done as a solo player.
    • Elite Quests – Will typically involve a small group to complete. These are marked (Elite) in the quest’s title.
    • Battlegroup Quests – Will require a battlegroup to complete. These are marked (Battlegroup) in the quest’s title.
    • Campaign Quests – Will have varying degree of difficulty. These are marked as [Cursed] in the quest’s title. They also state if they are achievable (Solo), as a (Small Group), or require a (Battlegroup).
    • All quest credit is battlegroup credit (but can be completed as a solo or group as well).
  • Aurulite and loot changes:

  • These will be updated with more legacy items in the coming chapters.
  • The chance for all enemies in the new dungeons to drop aurulite has been increased.
  • Named, non-elite enemies, have an increased chance to drop aurulite. However, they are typically more difficult than regular enemies.
  • Enemies marked <Elite> always drop a larger stack of aurulite. Elite enemies are typically powerful and require several allies.
  • The crafting ingredient, powdered aurulite, has been added to the loot table of the dungeon enemies.

Chapter 1

Albion

I said I would call upon you again and now I have. Together with our new Undead allies, we have found the stronghold of the Tenebrae. They make base in an ancient tomb deep within Dartmoor, one whose legends tell of an old hunter who died here in a snowstorm. What a different place Albion was back then. Meet me here, and with our new allies we can begin to end this Undead threat.
--- Commander Selan
Midgard
It is time, adventurers. The glory, fame, and riches we have for so long been chasing finally are within reach. It is time to invade Drakulvhamn, home of the nasty Varulv that aided Gjapinulva. There are bound to be riches inside – and the Frozen Torch will be the ones to claim them.
--Theso of the Frozen Torch
Hibernia
At first, I was uneasy about betraying my kind, the Glimmer. But now, I see the good in the world, the good in Hibernia. There is a phenomenon occurring, one that hasn’t been seen in decades. The Veil has once again opened, leading to what is one of the infinite rifts inside of it. The opening is in Sheeroe Hills, and this must be more than mere coincidence. The dragon eggs must be involved. Meet me inside – I will be waiting for you.
--Salle, the Glimmer Fairy
A Dragon’s Curse (Chapter 1)

  • Venture into Dartmoor, Malmohus, and Sheeroe Hills once again and continue A Dragon’s Curse!
  • New open-world dungeons have been added to the three realms, and these can be found in each realm’s dragon zones!
    • Dartmoor - Explore around the soutwest corner of the zone for tomb's entrance!
    • Malmohus - Explore around the northwest corner of the zone for the tunnel entrance!
    • Sheeroe Hills - Explore around the northwest corner of the zone for the veil's rift entrance!
    • Please note that if you are currently logged in you must re-patch to be able to see the new dungeon entrances.
  • Aurulite returns! Within the new dungeons awaits quests and enemies who will award players with aurulite, which can be spent at the new aurulite merchants within the dungeons!
  • The encounters involved in Chapter 1 are meant for a single player to be able to complete alone. However, to do so will be challenging so we encourage players to team up with your fellow realm mates for a speedier conquest!

A Dragon's Curse (Prologue)

  • In case you haven't completed the Prologue yet...
Albion
There is an un...easy tension stirring in Albion. Commander Selan and her companions, King Constantine’s chosen heroes, have been given authority over this unusual phenomenon. There is quite the uproar occurring near Albion’s grand church. Find Commander Selan and speak to her!

Midgard
Roshak has been assigned to investigate the distrubance in Malmohous by King Eirik and is ruminating on who should lead the expedition. Theso, leader of an unruly band of treasure hunters and scoundrels known as the Frozen Torch, is now leading the forefront to find lost Midgard relics. The only way to stop these treasures from falling into the wrong hands is to find them first, and that’s just what Sigrun of the Shield of Valhalla, a sect of Valkyries and other soldiers loyal to Midgard’s ancestry, plans to do. Visit Roshak in the Assembly Hall and then find Sigrun and Theso arguing near the Burial Grounds in Jordheim.

Hibernia
The Veil has become unstable, and we’ve dispatched Hibernian Magi to try and quell the disruption. On top of that, a Glimmerling has ventured from Sheeroe Hills and has come to Tir Na Nog seeking an alliance in regards to the unstable rift. The Glimmer working with Hibernia is a rare occurrence indeed, and is worth at least hearing out this messenger. Our Tailtiu allies have escorted the Glimmer here, and Supreme Eldritch Cystilla has been assigned to oversee the matter at the rift's entrance.

Read on for the Grab Bag!

What are the chances of seeing some of the older epic armor models return to the game? Some classes had older versions that still look pretty neat. ex: Minstrel, Blademaster, Thane, Hunter, etc.

There’s a good chance that a lot of older art will be popping up here and there over the next year.

Moving to a different lot in housing has always been difficult and requires you to sell your deed to another account, or wait for your house to be repossessed.  Can this be changed to enable players to move to open lots? This enables players to have houses in the same area as lots become available.

This is absolutely something we want to do. That said, adding in a house-move feature will take a good amount of time. This is another feature we’d try to tackle with the overall housing update coming next year.

Can you clarify the staff mauler functionality? Specifically what stats impact what ability? My testing is showing that there is no augmentation for the spec line nuke other than adding more plus to magic skill.

No base stat affects the direct damage nuke in Aura Manipulation, this is why you see the delve at such a high value. In addition to +Aura Manipulation, only the +%spell damage and +resist pierce stats, along with abilities like Mastery of Magery will increase the damage of the 'Gift of ...' spells. As far as Mauler Staff melee goes, its damage is increased by the Strength stat.

Why is there no comma separator for realm points on the main character tab? It just looks like a mass of numbers without it and the box that displays them isn’t quite big enough to show them all if you're really high RR. It just looks neater and nicer to see 150,632,875 on your tab instead of 150632875 for example. I'm an editor so this is more of a nit-picky thing but I've always wondered this. plz make the box bigger and add commas!

If you’ll notice, it’s not just realm points that lack commas on the attributes tab, but all of the values. As surprising as it sounds, adding in commas to those outputs is a bit more work than one would think. We’ll absolutely add it to our list for when we address the UI/UX of the entire menu bar (inventory, attribues, specializations, combat styles, magic spells, and group tabs).

When do you think new stuff for the mithril store will be added? like the race respec, server transfer, etc.. be added?

These major features like race, gender, and name respecs aren’t likely to get implemented until early next year. Server transfers will take a bit longer than that. However, the durability repair feature and some new Mitrhil-helms (masks!) will be coming in the next few weeks!

Despite class balance constantly being in flux, are there any future plans for new races or classes?

Classes? Not any time soon. 45 classes is quite enough for now, thank you! Races? *wink*.

Have a great weekend everyone! :)

Live Client Update

This client update should address issues that certain players are seeing with character facings; especially in melee combat. We've also noted many of the other small fixes that have gone up since 1.124 has gone live.

Please note, players already online must log out and run their patcher to receive this update.
  • (Client) Fixed an issue causing certain players and monsters to get their character facings slightly offset from their expected direction.
    • Please note that a slight stutter may be seen with characters stopping suddenly once again, but it should still be much improved from prior to 1.124.
  • (Client) The underwater idle animation is once again the correct animation.
  • Fixed an issue where players could get the Solo Road quest again prior to their daily lockout timer.
  • Several issues with Hibernia's Curse Campaign Chapter 6 have been corrected:
    • The barriers should correctly despawn when progressing through the chapter.
    • The marauders will now correctly take damage from equipped soul weapons.
    • The avriel will no longer respawn when defeated.
  • Atlantean Glass purchased from the Currency Exchange NPC will keep it's value at 20,000 after zoning. It also now stacks with itself up to 60,000.
  • Players should no longer get teleported randomly when running near the forge located behind Albion's Milegate in Cathal Valley.
  • Soul-infused boots regen should once again co-exist with Omni-Regens.

This week's Grab Bag is below!

What is Gem Cutting and will there ever be any patches that will improve the desirability and demand of crafting in general.

Gemcutting is simply a sub-craft to spellcrafting in the same way that metalcrafting is a sub-craft to armor or weaponsmithing. However, Jewelcraft – which may be what you were intending to ask about – was tradeskill that was originally designed to allow for the customization of accessories like cloaks, belts, rings, etc. identically to how spellcrafting works for crafted armor and weapons.  However, given the amount of customization already derived from just spellcrafting, it was decided long ago that this amount of customization would be unnecessary and so Jewelcraft is an extraneous craft at this point.

Right now there’s a steady demand for alchemy and spellcrafting which we’re happy with. However, the other crafts are missing some incentives. We do have some plans to address this in some future updates.

Hi, I been wondering if the realm button at character selection ever going to be activated? Sometimes you log in and your friends are not playing in that realm and to see if they are on the other realm you have to exit the game and log back in to switch realms. It's a bit inconvenient.

Agreed! This is something we can address. By the way, here’s a little trick for the time being: the “realm” text underneath the button does allow you to click it. We’ll adjust the clickbox to encompass the button too.

Has it been long enough now (since the expansions have released) to have classes such as the Mauler leveling at the same rate as the other classes?

Maulers level at the exact same rate as all other classes; this was always the case. This can be seen by comparing the amount of experience received by Maulers vs other classes when they are all grouped together and the same level (assuming identical XP item bonuses, etc.). The experience amounts received are always the same.

Maulers were not able to use the /level command at their release, which may be what you are remembering here. But that command has been disabled for all classes for some time now.

What is Draginium Ore, and what is it used for? The delve doesn't show anything and I am unable to find anything anywhere about it.

Stay tuned…
*Carol note: oh my, very ominous indeed!

Does changing my damage type to crush arrows actually work? How does that apply and to what shots do these apply to. If I'm using benthic shot and I have crush arrow types do I do both damage types or do I do cold damage?

The Blunt, Thrusting, and Slashing Arrows abilities for all archers only affect archer shots that already have a base physical (Slash, Thrust, or Crush) damage type. This includes Standard, Long, Power, Point Blank, Patella, Bola, and Critical shots – these shots are all set to a Slash damage type by default.

Any magic-based shot retains its existing magic damage types when used in conjunction with the Blunt, Thrusting, or Slashing Arrows abilities.

Have a wonderful weekend all :)

The following changes are now live!
  • The summoned pets in the Dragon Curse Campaign Ch. 6 have been improved as follows:
    • Damage mobs do more damage
      • Alb: Selan, Guy
      • Mid: Garmr, Freki
      • Hib: Cystilla, Rhogart
    • Tank mobs hold aggro much better from their NPC allies (not the player)
      • Alb: Maximilian
      • Mid: Garmr
      • Hib: Riarona
    • Selan (Alb) & Freki (Mid) now have backup healing. Salle’s (Hib) healing value is prioritized over celerity now.
  • The Mythical Crowd Control stats on the following items have had their stat values reduced. The new values below allow these items to have essentially the same net impact on crowd control reduction that they had prior to 1.124.
    • Lesser Irrepressible Mythirian: 4 to 1% crowd control reduction
    • Average Irrepressible Mythirian: 7 to 2% crowd control reduction
    • Greater Irrepressible Mythirian: 10 to 3% crowd control reduction
    • Dragon Movement Mythirian: Remains 3% crowd control reduction
    • Freezing Conqueror Mythirian: 10 to 2% crowd control reduction

    • Cape of the Pictish Hero: 5 to 2% crowd control reduction
  • The Ranger RR5, Nature's Madness, should now sever the connection of enemy controlled pets more consistently. This fixes an issue where sometimes the enemy pets would not immediately have their connection severed while inside the storm's effect.

Chapter 8

Albion

Maximilian…my husband…taken by the evil lord, Decimus. We must make our way into the Catacombs, vanquish the Tenebrous leaders, and find those responsible for this Undead uprising. We will put an end to their unholy crusade soon. There are reports of a waypoint opening within Childe’s Tomb. Our path into the Catacombs may begin there.
--Commander Selan

Midgard

The fifth stone is within reach, Warriors. Those from the deepest darkness, Darkspire, are making their way into Drakulvhamn once again. There is a waypoint within these dark caves, and our enemies are once again sending reinforcements to reclaim Drakulvhamn. The only way they could create such a rift powerful enough to travel through space instantly is with a stone of power. Find the waypoint, defeat the Darkspire lords, and claim the final stone. Then, we head into the Sanctum to find Garmr! Make haste!
--Oracle Sabna

Hibernia

Salle is still gone, but that doesn’t mean the Abagath march will slow! We have found the Life Stone, and with it, we are one stone away from beginning our march into the Catacombs. There is an opening within this rift, Heroes! My scouts report that the Marrach, Glimmer, and Darkspire are launching one final assault to reclaim this portion of the Veil. I leave it to you to stop them. Let us hope Salle is back before long with information on our stones of power.
--General Riarona

A Dragon’s Curse (Chapter 8)

  • The campaign continues! The factions of the Catacombs and the Darkspire lords launch a final assault on their lost lands!
  • Return to Childe’s Tomb, Drakulvhamn, and the Rift to close the final waypoint and prevent passage into your home realm once and for all!
  • The aurulite merchant now offers loot from all encounters and bosses from the campaign!
    • Note: This does not include the Chapter 6 Band of the Dream Conqueror

To begin the encounter:

  • Albion – After obtaining the quest from Commander Selan, find the Unstable Darkspire Waypoint within Childe’s Tomb. Interact with the waypoint to begin the encounter.
  • Midgard – After obtaining the quest from Oracle Sabna, find the Unstable Darkspire Waypoint within Drakulvhamn. Interact with the waypoint to begin the encounter.
  • Hibernia – After obtaining the quest from General Riarona, find the Unstable Darkspire Waypoint within the Rift. Interact with the waypoint to begin the encounter.

Things to note about Chapter 8:

  • Completing Chapters 1-5 and Chapter 7 are all required to begin Chapter 8.
  • Chapter 6 is not required to begin Chapter 8.
  • You can begin the encounter by right-clicking the Unstable Darkspire Waypoint. However, you must be on the Chapter 8 quest or have completed the quest to begin the encounter.
  • Once the encounter begins, if there are no players within the Waypoint’s radius, the encounter will reset.

Other fixes:

  • The aurulite Mauler staff, caster staff, and small shield are now sold at the proper 35% quality, 100% condition, and 100% durability.
  • Vulcan’s health, damage, and the rate he spawns fires have been reduced for Albion’s Chapter 7 encounter.
  • The melee and magic resistance buffs in Vampiir’s Dementia specialization should now co-exist with all other resistance type spells (or stack with ones they previously stacked with).
  • The Astral Kinetic Hammer’s damage absorption buff should now apply correctly in Midgard.
  • The Friar’s Tranquility damage reduction buff should now apply correctly to the group.

Chapter 7

New gear has been added to the aurulite merchants!

Chapter 4

    • Campaign Quests – Will have varying degree of difficulty. These are marked as [Cursed] in the quest’s title. They also state if they are achievable (Solo), as a (Small Group), or require a (Battlegroup).
    • All quest credit is battlegroup credit (but can be completed as a solo or group as well).
  • Aurulite and loot changes:
  • The Aurulite Merchants have new potions!
  • Legacy Merchants that offer legacy Catacombs items have been added inside the dungeons.

October is not just our favorite month because of the Anniversary, it's also Halloween! And that means haunted cities, candy and costumes, pumpkin patches in the Frontiers, and the return of the Mournful King instance!

Festivities begin today, October 17th and will conclude on Monday, November 6th.

  • Level 50 players should visit the ghostly queen, Lenore, in each realm's capital city to receive the new quest 'A Hallowed Lost'.
    • Visit the pumpkin patches in the frontier to find the buttertoe candy pieces Lenore needs and get some exciting new Trick or Treat costumes for your realmmates!
      • Only the pumpkin patches in Ellan Vannin, Pennine Mountains, Jamtland Mountains, and Breifine drop the five buttertoe candy pieces she needs.
        • You'll want to get this year's Ghostly Harvest quest to help guide you to the pumpkin patches!
        • Defeat the hallowed ghost, mummy, night bat, walking dead, or gooey slime at the pumpkin patches to get the candy pieces.
        • Different patches have different candy pieces available.
      • Trick or Treat potions can be used on your realm-mates to give them randomized costumes!
        • These potions will be usable in RvR for the three days surrounding and including Halloween!
    • Earn a new friend for your efforts!
    • Please note that this quest is only able to be completed once per character, including characters that completed it in previous years.
  • The instance dungeon, the Castle of the Mournful King, awaits those willing to brave its powerful ruler's fury!
    • Level 50 players should speak with Lenore to teleport to the instance.
    • Earn armor and weapons with stats you've seen before - but with different skins!
    • Draughts of Supremacy and Otherworldly Helms also have a chance to drop!
    • This instance is meant to be extremely challenging and is therefore entirely optional and not required to complete the new quest.
    • This instance can only be completed once per day, per character.
  • Lenore can be found in the following locations within the capital cities:
    • Camelot: The Church of Albion
    • Jordheim: The Temple of the Aesir
    • Tir na Nog: Alainn Cuir's courtyard

  • The Ghostly Harvest Quest offers players level 45 and up a dangerous adventure in the frontiers. Speak with John Tobin on the Cotswold Bridge, Foa Muldisson outside the Jordheim North Gates, or Nera by the road in Mag Mell to begin the quest. (Note: Players who completed this quest last year will now be offered it again.)
  • Treat sellers have been spotted selling sugary confections inside Meath, Erikstaad, and Caerwent.
  • The consignment merchants would like to show you their Halloween spirit! Pick up the merchant and place it back down on your house porch and he will change into a Halloween outfit for you!
  • Be aware adventurers! Ghosts haunt the streets of your capital cities as the pumpkin moon rises! Ghosts have also been spotted in Mag Mell, Aegirhamn, and Campacorentin Station.
  • The horses you once rode have joined the spirit realm. (This affects stable and merchant horses only - not player controlled horses.)
  • Something strange has happened to all of the puppies.
  • The pumpkins have been carved into jack o' lanterns!
  • A trio of crazy old women have been spotted selling costume potions inside Camelot, Jordheim, and Tir na Nog.
    • The costume potions last 15 minutes each and come in a variety of flavors.
    • The costume potions work best if you remove your helm and armor.
    • You cannot digest another costume potion if you are transformed into any of the monster forms.
    • The costume potions' magics are short-lived and the potions will be useless after the festivities end so don't horde them.
    • Some of the costume potions allow you to take the form of the enemy, so don't be scared if you see some in your capital city or housing zones, it's just your realm mates playing dress up!
    • The costumes and potions only work while you are in the capital cities or housing zones. You cannot use them outside of these zones and if you leave the zone while in costume, you will lose the effect.
    • As always, the days before, during, and after Halloween these potions can be used in RvR (With exception to pixies and ghosts potions, which are not usable in the frontiers ever)
  • NOTE: Players will need to logout and re-run the patcher in order to see the pumpkin moon, loot bags, and pumpkin patches

When do you think we’ll see the new helms teased in the newsletter?

What is the chance to hit a piece of armor?  My friend said it was 40% chest, 20% arms, 20% legs, 10% head, and 5% for boots/hands.  Can you comment on this?

Your friend is very close! Here are the chances for each armor slot to be hit by melee:

Chest: 40%
Legs: 25%
Arms: 15%
Head: 10%
Feet: 5%
Hands: 5%

I been taking some time to read and have found out that real-time chat.log has been disable. Is there a reason why? Can it be considered to be real-time once more? If you can have it real-time chat.log it would be great!'

Real time chat-logging is still enabled! It sounds like you may have accidentally disabled the chat logging feature though. The default key to toggle it on and off is CTRL+L. If you changed that, you can go to /keyboard and scroll down to the chat section to see the key used to toggle it.

I have several old artifacts from years back. I no longer use those since new items have changed the dynamics of templating my toons. How can we sell back our *Cloud Song, Goddess Necklace , Harpy's Feather Cloak and so on. Several items are taking up room in my personal vault and those won't allow you to put in a regular vault.

Once you have earned or purchased artifacts, they can easily be re-obtained from the Artifact Replacement NPC in the Hall of Heroes at no charge to you. Given that, if you do not wish to use them any time soon and want to remove them from your inventory, the best course of action is to destroy them (Shift+D by default).

I understand the reasoning on only allowing one char per day for the king but if you could extend this to maybe 3 it’d allow more toons to get the rewards, or increase the number of weapons that drop each run?

We will look at increasing the amount of rewards each run-through grants, thanks for the feedback!

Can you give us an idea on what we can expect with 1.125 and what’s coming next?

We’ll have a Producer’s Letter coming out in the coming weeks that will announce our upcoming plans, features, and some additional news!

Oohhh, exciting!

'Til next time, see you in the frontiers :)
